Why do we wash bath towels? Aren't we clean when we use them?

- I'm a Texas boy who grew up in the ranch country of West Texas. After high school, I left home and went to Dallas, where I would spend the next 4 or 5 years. After my time in Dallas, I served as a missionary in South America and Mexico. When my time was complete there, I returned home and married the love of my life, Sarah. Okay, now THIS one I can answer. You live in the nice dry West. In Michigan, where everything is damp, anything which contacts the air is vulnerable to either mildew or rust. Shucks, here, you don't even have to USE the bath towel left out for guests and given a week it needs to be washed.
